ACTORS & EXTRAS | Short Film: The Final Exam By Tobias Nicholas & Beth Wishart MacKenzie | Film Synopsis: The Final Exam is a classroom drama set in Turkey (filmed in Edmonton). When a devout young Muslim woman is asked by the professor to remove her headscarf in order to write a final exam at university, a male classmate finds a "strategic" way to guard her privacy so she can write the exam. Seeking Actors & Extras: Availability late July – September 2019. Shooting location: Edmonton, Alberta. Non-ACTRA production. No experience necessary. Non-professional actors may apply. ·        Lead Female Actor: Nazila | Age: 22-28 | Ethnicity: Turkic or Middle Eastern descentNon-speaking Role. Familiarity with Muslim devotional practice an asset. PAID ROLE/Food & Refreshments provided. Nazila is a devout young Muslim woman attending university in Turkey. Her religious practice involves wearing a headscarf, which she is compelled to remove in order to write a final exam. NOTE: actor’s headscarf WILL NOT be removed during filming – privacy will be protected.

·        Lead Male Actor: Ibrahim | Age: 22-28 | Ethnicity: Turkic or Middle Eastern descent 3-line speaking role; ability to speak Turkish an asset. PAID ROLE/Food & Refreshments provided Ibrahim is a devout young Muslim man attending university in Turkey. He is popular with his classmates and enlists their cooperation to protect Nazila’s privacy.

·        Supporting Male Actor: Professor | Age: Middle aged | Ethnicity: Turkic or Middle Eastern descent | 3-line speaking role; ability to speak Turkish an asset | PAID ROLE/Food & Refreshments provided. The Professor is an instrument of the state; a stern, uncompromising man ready to assert the Government’s dress code even if it could cost Nazila her degree.

·        7 Male & 3 Female Extras: Age: 18-30 | Ethnicity: Turkic or Middle Eastern descent. Role: Business Student at a modern Turkish university | Non-speaking role. NOTE: Must be comfortable NOT wearing religious symbols or head coverings. HONORARIUM and Food & Refreshments provided. –
