(EHBA) FALL 2019 OPEN HOUSE & CLASSES

If you’re interested in learning Spanish, the Edmonton Hispanic Bilingual Association has over 38 years of experience teaching it. We offer Basic, Intermediate and Advanced levels to adults. You will not only learn the Spanish language, but also get to know the different aspects of both the Hispanic and Latin American culture. All our instructors are experienced professionals who are native speakers of Spanish. Our fall classes begin September 10th and 14th, depending on whether you choose Tuesday evenings or Saturday mornings. Each Level takes 10 weeks to complete. Check out our Open House Events at McKernan School On the following dates: Tuesday, September 3rd, from 7 to 9 PM and, Saturday, September 7th, 10 to noon. Abstract: Reporting to the Help Lines Supervisors, the Help Lines Support Worker is responsible for coordinating and assisting with the activities necessary for effective program delivery in the Distress Line.  The Distress Line is a 24 hr line that helps people in crisis who may be feeling overwhelmed, experiencing abuse or contemplating suicide get emotional support, crisis intervention and connection to resources. The position duties include supervising/overseeing the performance of volunteers who answer Distress Line calls and arranging for emotional and practical support for the volunteers as may be required.  The Help Lines Support Worker will also undertake activities related to orientation, retention, evaluation, training|recognition for Distress Line Program volunteers.

Qualifications/Experience: Related post-secondary Diploma or relevant course-work (in a Social Science preferred) · Frontline experience on a Distress Line or in another similar role is required · Experience supervising volunteers is an asset · Successful Completion of Gender Based Analysis + Training and Brain Story Certification are an asset · Successful attainment and maintenance of: Information and Referral Specialist Certificate; Crisis Worker Certificate. Acceptable attainment & maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check. 

Skills/Abilities: Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including excellent telephone skills to ensure callers’ needs are determined and met · Ability to work effectively in a stressful environment, deal with difficult situations and respond in a composed manner · Positive, helpful attitude towards assisting clients · Demonstrated understanding of: mental health; mental illness & recovery; information|referral services; and crisis intervention · Ability to work independently and in a team environment · Ability to set priorities and allocate time and resources effectively · Organizational, time management and problem solving skills · Demonstrated abilities and initiative in completing tasks and projects · Ability to provide constructive and positive feedback to others and be able to accept the same · Ability to be empathetic, assertive and non-judgmental when assisting clients · Keyboarding skills and the ability to effectively use MS Office and other program software. –

Abstract: Reporting to the Manager, Crisis and Navigation Support Services, the Advocacy and Wayfinding Coordinator is responsible for providing individual advocacy support and advocacy education to people living with mental illness, their family members and significant others. This position supports mental health recovery by assisting individuals with system navigation along with locating and accessing information and resources. It enhances the ability of people with lived experience of mental illness to advocate on their own behalf. For the larger community, the Advocacy and Wayfinding Coordinator acts as a resource for information and referral services, works with others to constructively identify system limitations and generate creative solutions while developing and maintaining networks with community contacts. The position liaises with community agencies and other stakeholders to support Advocacy and Wayfinding and CMHA-Edmonton initiatives and provides information on services offered through presentations and discussions.

Qualifications/Experience | • Post-secondary Diploma in a related Human Services program (Degree preferred) • Minimum of 3 years of recent community mental health and case management experience • Current registration with a professional body (as appropriate) • Successful attainment and maintenance of: Information and Referral Specialist Certificate | Crisis Worker Certificate • Acceptable attainment and maintenance of a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector search and Child Welfare Intervention Services Check • Successful Completion of Gender Based Analysis + Training and Brain Story Certification are an asset.
