Wayfinders Business Co-operative is a for-profit social enterprise incorporated as a co-operative under the Co-operatives Act of the Province of Alberta. Wayfinders is seeking assistance from contributors to develop a web platform that will offer an integrated suite of productivity software as a service to freelancers, sole proprietors and independent businesses. 

Our web environment consists of WordPress sites, a NextCloud platform and other stand-alone application sites. All applications will be drawn from the open-source community and developed to meet Wayfinders' requirements. At this time Wayfinders is offering contributor* positions for internships, work experience placements or other contributions to be defined upon memorandum of agreement.

Front end: Developing an integrated multi-site web presence that is simple, effective|intuitive. Backend: System development administration will optimize use of data & applications management. Cloud: Developing an integrated cloud platform that offers a full range of business applications sharing data and documents. This needs to be able to support large scale processing|storage capability. 

Wayfinders needs assistance with: Enterprise Architecture; Applications Architecture Systems Analysis and Integration; Database Programming; User Experience and Web Design.

Contributor Requirements: Education, training and/or experience in some area(s) of information technology specialization; Ability to work relatively independently with support from a team of contributors with diverse IT backgrounds; Ability to take on specific tasks in collaboration with others; Contributors must agree in writing to (a) not disclose information about Wayfinders members, products, data or activities, (b) not compete with Wayfinders Business Co-operative, and (c) release to Wayfinders Business Co-operative any intellectual property produced while serving as a contributor Benefits.

Contributors* will be provided a supportive learning environment for skill development, including mentoring in respective IT disciplines as needed. Contributors are eligible to earn a membership share in Wayfinders Business Co-operative (valued at $100), work references, and non-monetary credits that may in future be converted to purchase goods or services from Wayfinders and its members. The Distress Line is a 24 hr line that helps people in crisis who may be feeling overwhelmed, experiencing abuse or contemplating suicide get emotional support, crisis intervention and connection to resources. The position duties include supervising/overseeing the performance of volunteers who answer Distress Line calls and arranging for emotional and practical support for the volunteers as may be required. The Help Lines Support Worker will also undertake activities related to orientation, retention, evaluation, training and recognition for Distress Line Program volunteers.

Qualifications/Experience: Related post-secondary Diploma or relevant course work (in a Social Science preferred) • Frontline experience on a Distress Line or in another similar role is required • Experience supervising volunteers is an asset • Successful Completion of Gender Based Analysis + Training and Brain Story Certification are an asset • Successful attainment and maintenance of: Information and Referral Specialist Certificate & Crisis Worker Certificate • Acceptable attainment and maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check.

Skills/Abilities: Strong interpersonal, verbal|written communication skills, including excellent telephone skills to ensure callers’ needs are determined and met • Ability to work effectively in a stressful environment, deal with difficult situations and respond in a composed manner • Positive, helpful attitude towards assisting clients • Demonstrated understanding of: mental health; mental illness & recovery; information|referral services; crisis intervention • Ability to work independently & in a team environment • Ability to set priorities & allocate time|resources effectively • Organizational, time management and problem solving skills • Demonstrated abilities and initiative in completing tasks and projects • Ability to provide constructive and positive feedback to others and be able to accept the same • Ability to be empathetic, assertive and non-judgmental when assisting clients • Keyboarding skills and the ability to effectively use MS Office and other program software.

The Resource Development Summer Student will also work with and support social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to promote and market agency and third party events.  It will liaise with the public, stakeholders and external organizations in relation to agency events and activities, and maintain good public relations.

Qualifications/Experience | Post-secondary student (2nd or 3rd year preferred) in a related field • Previous experience with various social media applications is required • Previous experience in the non-profit sector in a paid or unpaid capacity is preferred • Acceptable attainment & maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check.
