EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY | CMHA - Edmonton | https://edmonton.cmha.ca/ | Position: Caregiver Connections Peer Support Facilitator | Terms: Part-time – 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours/week) | Hours: Monday – Friday (specific days and working hours to be determined) – weekly Thursday evenings and other occasional evenings required. Salary/Wage: $22.56 - $31.50 per hour; $20,531 - $28,662 per year | Closing Date: Open until a suitable candidate is found.

Abstract: reporting to the Manager, Community Engagement, CMHA Edmonton, the Caregiver Connections Peer Support Facilitator provides peer to peer family support to the parents and caregivers of dependents experiencing a mental health concern, mental illness and/or addiction. This position will support early intervention and provide family support through both individual and group meetings as critical elements to the recovery of individuals with mental illness. It will utilize skills in public speaking and group facilitation; practical knowledge of strategies for promoting mental health; and its knowledge of community mental health resources. The Caregiver Connections Peer Support Facilitator will work closely with the Provincial Peer Support Project Manager who is the central point of communication, coordination, evaluation and reporting for the Caregiver Connections Program.

Qualifications/Experience | Previous experience in supporting a loved one or family member with a mental health concern is required • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related Human Services program is an asset • Familiarity with Peer support and a deep commitment to understanding the recovery model, and willingness to share experiences/stories as part of the peer role is required • Successful attainment and maintenance of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training is an asset • Attainment and maintenance of a Peer Support Certification is required • Experience working or volunteering within addiction or mental health is an asset • Acceptable attainment and maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check.

Skills/Abilities | Strong interpersonal, relationship building, active listening, verbal and written communication skills • Ability to effectively provide empathetic, helpful and supportive direction via all communication types • Ability to set boundaries with clients, deal with difficult situations and respond in a composed manner • Demonstrated understanding of: mental health; mental illness and recovery; information and referral services; and crisis intervention • Knowledge of and ability to access and utilize mental health resources and networks • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, set priorities, meet deadlines and allocate time and resources effectively • Ability to deal effectively with the public and community agencies and maintain good public relations • Skills and abilities in making presentations, group facilitation and networking • Skills in program development and evaluation is an asset • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office and Outlook calendar.
