Abstract: Reporting
to the Manager, Crisis and Navigation Support Services, the Advocacy and
Wayfinding Coordinator is responsible for providing individual advocacy support
and advocacy education to people living with mental illness, their family
members and significant others. This position supports mental health recovery
by assisting individuals with system navigation along with locating and
accessing information and resources. It enhances the ability of people with
lived experience of mental illness to advocate on their own behalf. For the
larger community, the Advocacy and Wayfinding Coordinator acts as a resource
for information and referral services, works with others to constructively
identify system limitations and generate creative solutions while developing
and maintaining networks with community contacts. The position liaises with
community agencies and other stakeholders to support Advocacy and Wayfinding
and CMHA-Edmonton initiatives and provides information on services offered
through presentations and discussions.
Qualifications/Experience
| •
Post-secondary Diploma in a related Human Services program (Degree preferred) •
Minimum of 3 years of recent community mental health and case management
experience • Current registration with a professional body (as appropriate) • Successful attainment and maintenance of: Information
and Referral Specialist Certificate | Crisis Worker Certificate •
Acceptable attainment and maintenance of a Criminal Records Check with
Vulnerable Sector search and Child Welfare Intervention Services Check • Successful Completion of Gender Based Analysis +
Training and Brain Story Certification are an asset.
Skills/Abilities
| • Strong interpersonal, verbal|written communication skills • Ability to set boundaries with
clients, deal with difficult situations & respond in a composed manner • Positive, helpful attitude towards assisting clients
• Demonstrated understanding of: mental health; mental illness and recovery;
information and referral services; and crisis intervention • Knowledge
and skills of advocacy, empowerment, and mental health recovery principles •
Knowledge of and abilities to access and utilize mental health resources and
networks • Ability to work independently, set priorities, meet deadlines and
allocate time and resources effectively •
Organizational and problem solving skills • Ability to effectively use
Microsoft Office • Ability to deal effectively with the public and community
agencies and maintain good public relations • Skills and abilities in making
presentations, group facilitation and networking • Skills
in program development, evaluation, and research.
